Three-ply extruded polyethylene coating:
The Trio coating is manufactured in accordance with The Standards Institution of Israel Standard 266.5.2 and in compliance with the following standards:
German Standard DIN 30670
The French Standard for three-layer coatings, NF A 49 710, March 1988 edition
And in compliance with the draft European Standard:
PrEN 10285 Steel tubes and fittings for on and offshore pipelines - External three layer extruded polyethylene based coating.
Coating Structure
The coating is applied to regular steel pipes that have been approved by plant Q.C. inspection and have been identified in accordance with the dimensions, standard and grade of the pipe and marked accordingly.
Damaged or dented pipes will not enter the coating process.
The steel pipes will undergo initial heating to remove any trace of moisture. Next they will undergo a cleaning process by means of blasting with steel granules, to obtain a clean steel surface, in accordance with the following requirements:
A. Cleaning level of 2 ½ Sa in accordance with the ISO 8501-1 Standard
B. Surface roughness level Rz between 40 and 80 (microns)
The coating is comprised of three layers:
1. An epoxy primer coat with a minimal thickness of 60 (Microns), accomplished by spraying epoxy powder on the hot pipe surface using the Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) method.
2. A coat of copolymeric adhesive with a minimal thickness of 150 (microns).
3. A polyethylene top coat of MDPE or HDPE containing stabilizers and carbon soot (black soot), minimum 2%, to provide stability against aging and UV radiation.
The ends of the pipe will be machined, leaving a clean steel end surface with no polyethylene coating.
On pipes of up to 4” in diameter, the uncoated end will be at least 100 mm in length.
On pipes with a diameter of 6” and above, the uncoated end will be at least 150 ± 20 mm in length.
The pipes will be inspected in order to ensure their integrity and the absence of punctures, with the aid of a holiday-detector instrument, which will operate at a voltage of 25,000 KV.
